Burn

She fell in love with the fire, the flame.

She drew near to an ember untamed.

She’s scared of the cold.

Aren’t we all just trying to be warm?

She held the match in the tips of her nails.

Surely it’s not as unsafe as they say?

She’s watching it burn.

Aren’t we all just trying to be warm?

The bigger the flame, the warmer the glow,

But it burns, baby.

Villains and saints were both on the stake.

Oh it burns.

I know you’re afraid to be all alone,

But you won’t die from a little cold.

Back away, don’t get too close…

For just a moment, you thought yourself a God,

You kissed the sun.

He threw you to the ground.

Didn’t you know you’ve got to blow the match out

Before the flame races down.

And now, you’ve lost more than you found.

The bigger the flame, the warmer the glow,

But it burns, baby.

Villains and saints were both on the stake.

Oh it burns.

I know you’re afraid to be all alone,

But you won’t die from a little cold.

Back away, don’t get too close…

It’s hard to show your face when you’re branded with a scar

From the fire you started.

So was it worth it just to be warm?

Aren’t we all just trying to be warm?
