“My Sista!”
I wrote this poem after eating a bucket of popcorn and unsuccessfully trying to remove a kernel from between my teeth with my tongue.
It reminded me of the days when I'd be peacefully strolling through the streets of Zimbabwe or South Africa, only to be interrupted by a loud, "sista!" from a guy hanging out the passenger's side of his best friend's ride, trying to holla at me.
So in this case, the Tongue is the guy (aka Scrub) and the popcorn kernel is me (and anyone else who has had to suffer through this), just trying to live peacefully and mind my business.

Where the Sun Shines Brightest
I wrote this as an ode to grief. The world tends to look at those who are grieving with a stopwatch, waiting for them to “move on”. This is my response.

Dzimbadzemabwe (more commonly known as Zimbabwe) loosely translates to “Great House of Rock”, and is my beloved country of origin. This poem touches on the often unavoidable plight of being an immigrant.
Garden of Eden
After being diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder in June 2015, I penned this open letter to God, with the Garden of Eden as a metaphor for the ‘pre-depression’ version of myself.
